The Edwin Watts Golf Amateur Tour continues to have great luck with the weather as our two-day event at Mission Inn's Las Colinas course went off without a single weather delay on either Saturday or Sunday. We got to see how players handled two days of competition.
As always, some players step up at these major events. Eric Baker won for the second time in three evets as he played two steady rounds and posted 74-75-149 to lead the way in Championship Flight. Current points leader Chad Frank came back after an opening 80 to shoot 75 and tie with Dennis Brady for second place. It was Brady's first event competing with the regula Championsjhip fight players. He normally plays only in the Senior flight. So, he picked a good time to double up as he also finished second in the Senior Championship flight. Steve Maddox held onto his lead in the points race in the flight by shooting 73-70-143 for the low score of the weekend.
A Flight continued to produce close finishes. The points race could go down to the last event (we only have two events left). Sylvester Warren III shot a steady 79-77-156 for the low score of the weekend. The double points pretty much clinched a berth in the Tour Championship. He held off Jacksonville AGT tour member Nick Dewit who took second place with a great second day round of 75 to go with an opening 82. Robbie Robinson was next with 80-78-158. David Parker (82-77) and Ed Paterniti (78-81) tied for fourth at 159. Robinson, Parker and Paterniti finished 1-2-3 in the Senior A Flight.
First year player Dan Gardner is playing some good golf these days. He topped the field at Mission Inn in B Flight and moved into the top three in the points list. He posted 87-80-167 to finish three strokes in front of Ben Hamby and Matt D'Auria. Matt opened with 91 but came back with a nice 79 Sunday to climb into the second place tie. Ben shot 87-83. They were one ahead of Chet Rakowski in fourth with 87-84-171. In Senior B Flight, first day leader Chet Parker (79) shot 89 on Sunday and managed to hold off Ben Hamby at 170 and Chet Rakowski at 171.
C flight continues to shuffle leaders at the top of the flight. This time it was Mike Salik who took over first place in Player of the Year race--by one point! Wayne Weaver won the tournament at Mission Inn with rounds of 90-86-176. Salik was second with 91-87-178. Bryan Bowman was just one more shot back in third with 88-91-179.
James Rearden continud his domination of D flight by shootn 93-100-193 to take the top spot in D Flight. Ian Halliwell was second with 196. Broderic Johnson, battling with Alberto Esperon for second in Player of the Year, took third with 104-94-198.
